The University of North Texas is excited to announce the North Texas Promise program. Beginning in Fall 2026, qualifying first-time freshmen seeking their first bachelor’s degree will have the full cost of their tuition and mandatory fees covered by a combination of scholarships and/or grants for up to four years (eight semesters).

*Total family income is determined via the FAFSA. Eligibility requires financial need as determined via the FAFSA.
Funding is capped at financial need.
Students who meet the above listed criteria will automatically be considered for North Texas Promise.

High school seniors graduating in 2025 and admitted as a degree-seeking, first-time freshman for the Fall 2026 semester by Feb. 15, 2026 are automatically considered if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Note: A first-time freshman for the purposes of the North Texas Promise program is a student who has not attended another college or university after high school graduation.

The full cost of tuition and mandatory fees for courses required toward a first bachelor’s degree program will be covered for eligible students through a combination of federal, state and institutional grants and/or scholarships.
Funding is applicable toward fall and spring enrollment and renewable for up to four years (eight semesters).
Students must enroll full-time (at least 12 hours) in continuous fall and spring semesters in courses required toward a first bachelor’s degree.
Yes. The following is the renewal criteria to receive the North Texas Promise program in a subsequent year:
The North Texas Promise program is renewable for up to four years (eight semesters). Students are no longer eligible for the North Texas Promise program once they have earned a first bachelor’s degree.
“Financial need” is the total estimated cost of attendance (COA) for a period of enrollment minus the Student Aid Index (SAI) as determined via the FAFSA.
Unmet financial need for the purpose of this program is “financial need” minus grants, scholarships and/or exemptions.
Eligibility for the program is determined as of your academic information at point of admission and FAFSA data as of 2/15/2026. However, if a student’s FAFSA data is updated by the student or via a verification process, it is possible to lose eligibility if the verified total family income is above $100,000 or a student’s unmet need is reduced.
The North Texas Promise program covers the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for courses in the fall and spring semesters only. However, first-time freshmen who begin at UNT in the Summer 2026 term will be considered for the program beginning in the Fall 2026 semester.
If you meet the criteria for the North Texas Promise program, you are eligible for the program. Some students will be eligible for both the North Texas Promise program and one of the above listed programs. The amount of your funding through UNT will be the same if you are eligible for North Texas Promise or North Texas Promise and one of our external pledge programs.
