Eligibility & Criteria

UNT Promise Programs and Partnerships ensure eligible students will receive a combination of federal, state, and/or institutional funding to cover the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees in fall and spring semesters. Funding is renewable for up to 4 years toward a student's first bachelor's degree.

Recipients must:

  • Graduate from a participating Texas public high school.
  • Be admitted to UNT as a first-time freshman by February 15, 2025 for the Fall 2025 semester.  Admission applications to UNT are submitted through GoApplyTexas.org or Common App.
  • Complete your 2025-2026 FAFSA (or TASFA) and submit all required supporting documentation by March 1, 2025*.  
  • Be a resident of Texas for tuition purposes.
  • Have a total family income of $85,000 or less.
  • Have an Student Aid Index (SAI) as calculated via the FAFSA (or TASFA) of 6,472 or less.
  • Meet and maintain eligibility criteria for the TEXAS Grant Program.
  • Attend UNT the fall semester after your high school graduation.
  • Register in 12 or more hours in fall and spring semesters.

*The 2025-2026 FAFSA/TASFA deadline has been extended from January 15th to March 1st due to the implementation of FAFSA Simplification.  In future years, the deadline will be January 15th. 

Financial Aid Offers are sent via email to students who have been admitted to UNT and have completed all financial aid application steps.  Financial aid communications to students are sent to the UNT email address, known as EagleConnect Email.

Please be advised: Promise Program or Partnership recipients will not see a specific fund on their financial aid award notice that is labeled “Promise” or by a partnership name. A combination of federal, state, and/or institutional funding will cover the full cost of tuition and fees for eligible students. Promise Program or Partnership eligible students will receive a letter via email notifying them of their eligibility April 2025.

Program Criteria

Dallas County Promise Program

Dallas County Promise includes 82 participating high schools throughout Dallas County to include Dallas ISD, DeSoto ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Cedar Hill ISD, Duncanville ISD, Garland ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, Irving ISD, Lancaster ISD, Mesquite ISD, and Richardson ISD .

To be considered for the UNT Dallas Promise Program, students graduating from participating high schools must complete the Dallas Promise Path Form through the Dallas County Promise Program  and adhere to all criteria and deadlines.

UNT will offer the UNT Dallas Promise Program to 20 students who have received their associates degree from Dallas College, have a transfer GPA of 2.5 or greater, enroll in the fall or spring semester following receipt of their associates degree, and meet all other criteria as listed above.

Red River Promise Program

Red River Promise includes 14 participating high schools in Cook County, Montague County and Young County . To be considered for the UNT Red River Promise Program,  students graduating from participating high schools must complete the Red River Promise Pledge through the Red River Promise Program  and adhere to all criteria and deadlines.

Tarrant To & Through (T3) Partnership
The T3 Partnership includes 24 participating high schools within Fort Worth ISD, Crowley ISD, Castleberry ISD, and Arlington ISD (Lamar only). To be considered for the UNT T3 Partnership Program,  students graduating from participating high schools must complete the T3 Partnership Pledge through the T3 Partnership Program and adhere to all criteria and deadlines.
Texoma Promise Program
Texoma Promise includes 23 participating high schools. To be considered for the UNT Texoma Promise Program, students graduating from participating high schools must complete the Texoma Promise Pledge through the Texoma Promise Program  and adhere to all criteria and deadlines.

Renewal Criteria

UNT Promise Programs and Partnerships are renewable for up to four years for students who entered the program as first-time freshman and two years for those who entered the program with their associates degree.

To maintain eligibility in subsequent years, student must:

  • Register full-time (12 hours or more) at UNT in fall and spring semesters.
  • Successfully complete year at least 24 semester credit hours at the end of each academic year.
  • Maintain a minimum UNT cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 at the end of each academic year.
  • Maintain eligibility for federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid programs and have a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 6,472 or less for applicable aid year. 
  • Submit FAFSA (or TAFSA) application by the January 15th* preceding the upcoming fall semester.
