National Merit Finalists who have designated The University of North Texas as their school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation are considered for a full four-year UNT scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees, room and board on-campus (standard hall/double occupancy) with the 7-Day Basic meal plan, and textbook expenses.

You must designate UNT as your school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by their published deadline. In addition, we encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The scholarship value is set annually using the UNT Undergraduate Average Cost of Attendance developed for UNT Meritorious Scholarship recipients.

UNT Meritorious Scholarship awards have the potential to be renewed for students meeting the continuing eligibility requirements. Length of award and renewal information will be provided to the student when an official scholarship offer is extended.

Non-Texas residents assessed non-resident tuition receiving this competitive scholarship are assessed tuition costs at the in-state rate for the fall, spring and the following summer terms. Students receiving a competitive scholarship wavier of non-resident tuition must complete Selective Service registration as required by federal law, according to applicable Texas Education Code 51.9095.

If you receive other scholarships or need-based aid, your total UNT Meritorious Scholarship will be adjusted so that your financial aid and scholarship package will not exceed the total Cost of Attendance established by Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS).
