Academic Program Information
Financial aid eligibility is based on a student’s active degree or certificate program and enrollment in that program.
- Students active in an undergraduate program must enroll in undergraduate hours.
- Students active in a graduate program must enroll in graduate hours.
- Students enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate hours in the same term should contact FAS for additional information.
Doctoral Degree
- Financial aid eligibility up to 8 years (24 terms)
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 graduate hours per term
- Eligible for college work-study and state/institutional grants
- Eligible for graduate level direct loans
Master's Degree
- Financial aid eligibility up to 5 years (15 terms)
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 graduate hours per term
- Eligible for college work-study and state/institutional grants
- Eligible for graduate level direct loans
Undergraduate Degree – 1st bachelor’s degree
- Financial aid eligibility up to 150 percent of the published length of the program measured by the number of credit hours required for the degree
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate hours per term for most aid programs
- Eligible for college work-study and federal/state/institutional grants
- Eligible for undergraduate level direct loans
Post Baccalaureate Seeking Second Undergraduate Degree – 2nd bachelor’s degree
- Allowed only one consecutive 24-month period of eligibility
- The 24-month period begins the first term enrolled whether or not financial aid was applied for or received
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate hours per term
- Eligible for college work-study and state/institutional grants
- Eligible for undergraduate senior level direct loans
- Undergraduate lifetime loan limits apply
Non-Degree Seeking
- Includes any undergraduate, post baccalaureate or graduate student not enrolled in an eligible degree or graduate academic certificate program.
- Not eligible for financial aid
- You may be able to pursue alternative sources of funding
Graduate Academic Certificate
- Allowed only one consecutive 12-month period of eligibility
- The 12-month period begins the first term enrolled whether or not financial aid was applied for or received, even if prior to the current academic year
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 graduate hours per term
- Eligible for college work-study and state/institutional grants
- Eligible for graduate level direct loans
Post Baccalaureate Undergraduate Teaching Certification
- Allowed only one consecutive 24-month period of eligibility
- The 24-month period begins the first term enrolled whether or not financial aid was applied for or received
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate hours per term
- Eligible for college work-study and state/institutional grants
- Eligible for teacher certification level direct loans
- Undergraduate lifetime loan limits apply
Pre-Teacher Certification
- Not eligible for financial aid
- Contact UNT’s Educator Preparation Office for further information on these programs
- You may be able to pursue alternative sources of funding
Graduate Teacher Certification
- Not eligible for financial aid
- Contact UNT’s Educator Preparation Office for further information on these programs

Intensive English Language Institute (IELI)
- Not eligible for financial aid

Dual Credit or Visiting Students
- Not eligible for financial aid
