To be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant,  you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), meet federal aid eligibility criteria, and be an undergraduate student seeking your first degree.  Your eligibility for this grant will depend on the results of your FAFSA and how many financial aid eligible credit hours you are taking each term.

Year-Round Pell

Year-Round Pell is available to allow eligible students to receive a Federal Pell Grant in the Summer Term even if they received a full Federal Pell Grant during the Fall and Spring Terms. To be considered for additional Pell in Summer 2024, you must:

  • be Pell eligible;
  • be enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate program; and
  • be enrolled at least half-time for the term the additional Federal Pell Grant is awarded.

Lifetime Eligibility Used

The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds you may receive over your lifetime is limited. Learn more about what the limits are and how your remaining eligibility is calculated.

Class Attendance and Pell Grants

The amount of Federal Pell Grant you receive must be based on the number of hours in which you are enrolled and have begun attendance as of the financial aid Census Day of each term. Therefore, after initial disbursement of your Federal Pell Grant funds, subsequent changes may be made to the amount through the financial aid Census Day based on your actual enrollment.

Federal Pell Grant FAQs

Why did my Pell Grant amount change?

Your Federal Pell Grant amount can change based on any change you made on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), enrollment status, or participation in a course. Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) may also impact Federal Pell Grant amounts.

May I receive more Federal Pell Grant funding?

You are considered for your maximum grant eligibility at the time you are awarded. If your enrollment should increase (or decrease) after your initial financial aid offer and before the financial aid Census Day of the term, your Federal Pell Grant will be adjusted accordingly.

I received a Federal Pell Grant last year, but not this year. Why?

Your Federal Pell Grant eligibility can change from year to year based on the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), enrollment status, and your Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU).
