Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services at the University of North Texas (UNT) is responsible for the billing and collection of tuition, fees and third-party charges, in addition to calculating waivers and exemptions for UNT students. Student Accounting also processes sponsored student payments.
Federal Regulations require that other financial assistance such as waivers, exemptions and/or sponsored payments be considered as resources available to assist with educational expenses for students receiving Financial AidMoney provided to the student and the family to help them pay for the student's education. Major forms of financial aid include gift aid (grants and scholarships) and self help aid (loans and work)..
Please be aware that the timing of when waivers, exemptions and/or sponsored payments are posted to a student’s account may impact current and future financial aid disbursementDisbursement is the release of loan funds to the school for delivery to the borrower. The payment will be made co-payable to the student and the school. Loan funds are first credited to the student's account for payment of tuition and fees. Any excess funds are then paid to the student in cash or by check for the purpose of paying for other educational expenses.. When posting occurs after aid disbursement for a term, a manual review and adjustment of financial aid may be required. Students are encouraged to provide waiver, exemption and/or sponsored payment information to Student Accounting in a timely manner to minimize the related challenges involved.
Competitive ScholarshipA scholarship is a form of financial aid given to students to help pay for their education. Most scholarships are restricted to paying all or part of tuition expenses, though some scholarships also cover room and board. Scholarships are a form of gift aid and do not have to be repaid. Many scholarships are restricted to students in specific courses of study or with academic, athletic, or artistic talent. Waiver

Non-Texas residents assessed non-resident tuition receiving UNT competitive scholarship(s) of at least $1,000 for the academic yearThe period during which school is in session, consisting of at least 30 weeks of instructional time. The school year typically runs from the beginning of September through the end of May at most colleges and universities. and/or summer term are eligible to pay in-state Texas resident tuition for the fall, spring and the following summer terms. NOTE: Non-Texas residents residing outside of Texas and only enrolled in online courses should contact their major department for specifics regarding tuition charges
Students receiving a competitive scholarship wavier of non-resident tuition must complete Selective ServiceThe Selective Service Administration executes registration for the military draft. Male students who are US citizens and have reached the age of 18 and were born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with Selective Service to be eligible for federal financial aid. Registration, according to applicable Texas Education Code 51.9095.
Students assessed non-resident tuition who receive scholarships not awarded by UNT through its competitive scholarship process are not eligible to pay in-state Texas resident tution.
