Priority Dates

The General Scholarship Application must be completed. 

Applicants who meet the admission priority deadline for scholarship consideration will be given first consideration for scholarships, based on their completed admission application and available funding.

Submit the ApplyTexas Application early to ensure that all transcripts are current with UNT for scholarship consideration.  ApplyTexas Applications received after the admission priority deadline may not be complete in time for eligibility to be confirmed for the General Scholarship Application. Specific questions regarding your admission application should be directed to Undergraduate Admissions.

Awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year based on transfer cumulative grade point averageThe GPA is an average of a student's grades. Grades have been converted to a 4.0 scale, with 4.0 being an A, 3.0 being a B, and 2.0 being a C. (GPA).


UNT Transfer Scholarships are available for students transferring from a community college or an accredited university with a cumulative 3.0 transfer GPA AND a minimum of 45 attempted credit hours but less than 120 hours. Attempted hours exclude credit hours earned from APAdvance Placement; a College Board program that includes offering tests to high school students as an opportunity to earn college-level course credit., CLEPCollege Level Examination Program; a College Board program that offers standardize tests in various subjects as an opportunity to earn college course credits., military, etc.

  • Attention Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members: Congratulations on your honor society recognition.  As a PTK member, you are eligible for the UNT Transfer Scholarship if you meet the program criteria.
  • Students must be active in a UNT degree program to receive UNT scholarships.
  • Students active in a UNT Dallas program should contact UNT Dallas for scholarship opportunities.
  • International students that are admitted as new transfer students are also considered for these scholarships, based on the required cumulative GPA noted.

Admitted transfer students are evaluated for scholarship awards based on completed admission and scholarship applications. UNT will continue to award these scholarships for the academic yearThe period during which school is in session, consisting of at least 30 weeks of instructional time. The school year typically runs from the beginning of September through the end of May at most colleges and universities. (fall/spring) based on available funding, with priority consideration given to the earliest applicants. Students should ensure their most current transcripts are updated with Undergraduate Admissions.

Keep the following in mind with regard to scholarship consideration:

  • Many students compete for available scholarships, which are made based on merit and on a first-come, first-served basis to students enrolling in the fall term.
  • UNT's Scholarships are competitive and commitments made by external organizations (including PTK) regarding scholarship eligibility are not considered in the awarding process.
  • Scholarship criteria are nonnegotiable and subject to change.
  • Students eligible for multiple scholarship opportunities will receive the most beneficial award. Receipt of multiple awards is limited by funding available.
  • University of North Texas Scholarships administered by Student Financial AidMoney provided to the student and the family to help them pay for the student's education. Major forms of financial aid include gift aid (grants and scholarships) and self help aid (loans and work). & Scholarships (SFAS) are funded through tuition revenue. As such, enrollment is required to receive the scholarships and disbursements are applied to tuition/fees for all recipients.

UNT Transfer ScholarshipA scholarship is a form of financial aid given to students to help pay for their education. Most scholarships are restricted to paying all or part of tuition expenses, though some scholarships also cover room and board. Scholarships are a form of gift aid and do not have to be repaid. Many scholarships are restricted to students in specific courses of study or with academic, athletic, or artistic talent. awards may have the potential to be renewed for students meeting specific GPA requirements in addition to meeting continuing eligibility requirements. Award terms, including renewal information will be provided to the student if an official scholarship offer is extended.

Non-Texas residents assessed non-resident tuition receiving this competitive scholarship would be assessed tuition costs at the in-state rate for the fall, spring and the following summer terms. Students receiving a competitive scholarship wavier of non-resident tuition must complete Selective ServiceThe Selective Service Administration executes registration for the military draft. Male students who are US citizens and have reached the age of 18 and were born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with Selective Service to be eligible for federal financial aid. Registration, according to applicable Texas Education Code 51.9095. Non-Texas residents residing outside of Texas and only enrolled in online courses should contact their major department for specifics regarding tuition charges.
