Incoming students
UNT awards a limited number of renewable scholarshipsA renewable scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded for more than one year. Usually the student must maintain certain academic standards to be eligible for subsequent years of the award. Some renewable scholarships will require the student to reapply for the scholarship each year; others will just require a report on the student's progress to a degree. for the academic yearThe period during which school is in session, consisting of at least 30 weeks of instructional time. The school year typically runs from the beginning of September through the end of May at most colleges and universities. (fall/spring) to incoming freshmen and transfer students on a first-come, first-served basis.
No scholarship application is necessary. All eligible students are identified through their completed Admissions file. Please ensure all transcripts and test scores are updated in Admissions as soon as possible.

- Board of Regents Scholarships - Students who rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class at the time of admission to UNT and score at least 1200 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT (written portion excluded) are eligible to apply for Board of Regents Scholarships. - UNT Texas Transfer and UNT Phi Theta Kappa Texas Transfer Scholarships - Students who transfer from an accredited Texas two-year or four-year school with a 3.5 cumulative grade point averageThe GPA is an average of a student's grades. Grades have been converted to a 4.0 scale, with 4.0 being an A, 3.0 being a B, and 2.0 being a C. with at least 45 transfer credit hours are eligible to apply for the UNT Texas Transfer and UNT Phi Theta Kappa Texas Transfer scholarships.
UNT also awards a limited number of prestigious scholarships to incoming freshmen through the following programs:
- UNT Meritorious Scholarship program - National Merit Finalists who designate UNT as your number one school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by the last business day in May are automatically considered for the UNT Meritorious Scholarship program. We invite you to compare our program to any other in the country and join our growing community of National Merit Finalists.
- UNT Terry Scholarship program - The prestigious UNT Terry Scholarship program is open to incoming freshmen with a record of leadership in school and community, have financial needThe difference between the COA and the EFC is the student's financial need - the gap between the cost of attending the school and the student's resources. The financial aid package is based on the amount of financial need. The process of determining a student's need is known as need analysis. as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA), and show strong academic abilities as evidenced by grades, class rank, and ACT or SAT scores.
Continuing Students
Entering and continuing students may apply for a number of scholarships using the online General Academic Scholarship Application. These scholarship awards are funded by donors that request SFAS administer their scholarships.
Keep in mind that many students compete for scholarships, and the availability of scholarship funding is affected by factors such as the state economy and the stock market's performance. We highly recommend you apply as early as possible each year.
