Scholarships for International Students

SFAS Academic Scholarships

International students may compete for scholarships awarded through the General Scholarship Application.

International students that are entering freshman need to be ranked in the top 25% of their high school class and have at least an 1100 SAT or 24 ACT (written test score excluded). If your high school does not provide a rank, please contact the International Admissions and Recruitment Office to see what documentation you will need to provide so that they may determine a rank for you. International students receiving any SFAS Academic Scholarship with an amount of at least $1,000 for the academic yearThe period during which school is in session, consisting of at least 30 weeks of instructional time. The school year typically runs from the beginning of September through the end of May at most colleges and universities. would have their out of state tuition waived.

UNT Excellence Scholarships

We have expanded our renewable scholarship program to recognize more students who are in the top 50 percent of their high school graduating class with test scores of at least 1100 on the SAT or 24 on the ACT (written portions excluded). Students’ high school rank and test scores are used to determine UNT Excellence Scholarship award amounts. 


Applicants who meet the priority admission application deadline will be given first consideration for scholarships, based on their completed admission application and completed General Scholarship Application.

UNT Texas Transfer Scholarship

International students may compete for these scholarships. The International Admissions application is used to determine a student's eligibility. Students must be transferring at least 45 credit hours from a Texas community/junior college or Texas University and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA . International students receiving this scholarship with an amount of at least $1,000 for the academic year would have their out of state tuition waived.  Students are encouraged to follow all direction provided to them via email regarding scholarship action required for award consideration.

Departmental Scholarships

Several departments on campus offer scholarships to international students. Students can find out more information on those scholarships by visiting their college, department or school in which they plan to major.

General Information:

  • Student Financial AidMoney provided to the student and the family to help them pay for the student's education. Major forms of financial aid include gift aid (grants and scholarships) and self help aid (loans and work). & Scholarships (SFAS) administers many scholarships on campus, and all opportunities require students to complete the General Scholarship Application to receive a scholarship award. 
  • All students meeting scholarship requirements are advised about their eligibility and encouraged to complete the application as soon as possible.
  • Scholarship information is provided to students via their official UNT campus email account:  EagleConnect.  Students should login to and review notifications received so action can be taken promptly!
  • If students do not monitor their UNT campus email account or have the account forwarded to an email they do monitor, they may miss critical information being provided to assist them.  Directions regarding how to forward your EagleConnect email are available here:
  • Students needing assistance with information not provided online should email so information can be provided to assist with their question.
  • Incoming students are encouraged to seek scholarship opportunities with the department of their anticipated major noted on their admission application.  A list is available here for reference:
